April 28 is Canada's Day of Mourning for workers killed or seriously injured on the job. Let's mark this occasion together.

Watch our remembrance presentation for the Dresden victims, and all fallen workers—and the families who grieve for them. Director Eric Philpott hosts conversations with Rudy Oldewening, who lost his father Jan Oldewening in the Dresden disaster, and Sandy Prong, who lost her brother in 1980. Today Sandy is a speaker with Threads of Life, an organization that provides support to families dealing with the loss of a loved ones through workplace tragedies.

In the last part of the presentation, Eric speaks with senior editor Joseph Crawford about their work on the film.

DRESDEN 1957 is a documentary that will tell the forgotten story of an excavation collapse and the six Dutch immigrant workers who lost their lives. Unfortunately this is not just a historical issue. IN 2023, 1056 workers died on the job in Canada. In 2024, the number was 1044, but most Canadians are still unaware of the issue.
