Each year on April 28, Canada marks a Day of Mourning for workers killed or seriously injured on the job. Canada's workers are the hands that built this country and it is right and proper that we recognize those who paid the ultimate price.

But that is just the start: today there are few Canadians who could name even one worker who lost their lives doing their job. That is just one of the reasons we are making Dresden 1957. Stories like these should not be lost and those who gave their lives should not be forgotten.

Removing the body of Dirk Ryksen on August 14, 1957. He was one of six Dutch immigrant workers who lost their lives in the Dresden excavation collapse.

Dresden 1957 is a documentary currently in production. It is the untold story of Ontario's worst workplace tragedy - and the immigrant workers who lost their lives.
